Minority Caucus Vows Unity, Mentorship Drive and Intensified Oversight Ahead of 2028

The minority caucus in Parliament reaffirmed a unified strategy to strengthen parliamentary oversight, deepen internal mentorship, and intensify public engagement as it prepares for the resumption of the House and eyes the 2028 elections.

Speaking at a caucus meeting, Minority Chief Whip and Nsawam-Adoagyire MP Hon. Frank Annor Dompreh said the party has rebounded from setbacks after the last general election and is “stronger, more agile and well informed.” He described recent months as a period of rebuilding that has restored momentum and positioned the caucus to press the government on accountability while preparing for future campaigns.

- Maintaining a single, coordinated voice in parliament and sustaining pressure on the government through robust oversight and targeted interventions.

- Continuing and expanding a mentorship roster that pairs first-time MPs with experienced members to improve floor presentations and adherence to parliamentary procedures.

- Assigning first-time MPs to committee leadership roles to build capacity and ensure meaningful contributions to debates, including the annual budget and State of the Nation Address.

- Producing continuous committee-driven press statements and briefings to create an official channel for communicating issues to the public and preempting misinformation.

- Prioritizing advocacy for vulnerable groups, including an urgent call for government measures to cushion cocoa farmers following a producer price reduction.

Dompreh criticized the current NDC government for what he described as politicization of national issues, citing the handling of the Bank of Ghana’s 2025 financial statement and the reduction in cocoa producer prices as causes for concern. He urged the caucus to intensify accountability efforts and reiterated the party’s goal of returning to governance in 2028.

The caucus also emphasized resilience in the face of personal attacks on MPs and pledged to continue coordinated strategy work across constituencies to better communicate policy positions and hold the executive to account. Dompreh closed by calling for unity within the caucus and renewed commitment to delivering effective governance for Ghanaians.
