Mrs. Yvonne Nana Afriyiye Opare, Managing Director of Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL), has emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement in advancing Ghana's aviation sector.
Speaking at the 5th Aviation Ghana Breakfast Meeting, themed "Advancing Ghana's Aviation Sector: Policy, Connectivity, and Sustainable Growth," Opare highlighted the significance of the event in fostering sector growth. The meeting brought together stakeholders, including airlines, ground handlers, travel and tour operators, and representatives from the Ministry of Transport.
Opare addressed concerns about the Air Navigation Services (AIDC) charge, explaining that expansion and development come with costs. She cited the example of Terminal 3, emphasizing that investments in infrastructure would ultimately benefit Ghana's aviation industry.
Regarding passenger numbers, Opare reported a significant increase, with 3.625 million passengers recorded in 2025, surpassing pre-COVID numbers. She attributed this growth to the sector's resilience and emphasized the need for expansions to accommodate increasing passenger numbers.
The GACL MD did not disclose specific plans for AIDC charge reviews but indicated that discussions would continue with the Ministry of Transport. She highlighted the importance of transparency and stakeholder engagement in addressing concerns and promoting sector growth.
The breakfast meeting provided a platform for stakeholders to discuss policy, connectivity, and sustainable growth in Ghana's aviation sector.
