Augustina Baidoo Makes History as she Lifts Second GTTA Sheroes Title

Lance Corporal Augustina Baidoo of the Ghana Armed Forces (6 bn) has successfully defended her title at the 2026 GTTA Sheroes table tennis championship held last weekend at the Hathramani sports hall. Baidoo showcased remarkable resilience, coming from 0-3 down to beat Eva Adom Amankwaah 4-3 in a nail-biting final. The Ghana Armed Forces player exhibited strong prowess, leveraging her skills in both forehand and backhand rallies to secure the win.

Baidoo's victory marks her second consecutive Sheroes title, solidifying her position as one of the top table tennis players in Ghana. Her win is a clear indication to her hard work and dedication to the sport, and pinned as a force to be reckoned with in the table tennis arena.

In an interview with this portal, Baidoo expressed gratitude to her management especially, her coach Joshua Okine for the support and encouragement. She also praised the GTTA's mission of providing sustainable and developmental opportunities through the “Ladies Can Loop“ initiative.

"It's a nice decision made by the GTTA executives led by Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, and it's really impacting so much on us, the women, giving us the morale to always train harder," she said. Baidoo also expressed her hope that the GTTA would get more sponsors to enable them to host the tournament more often.

Baidoo revealed her targets of achieving more laurels at both local and international competitions. "My next goal is to win the next tournament which is happening in Kumasi, so I will still continue to train harder because I have a lot of work to do, and winning this Sheroes will put so much pressure on me. Another target is to go for the Olympics," she indicated. She again mentioned that her eyes are set on making a mark at the international level, and she's willing to put in the work to get there.

Augustina Baidoo took home an undisclosed amount of cash as her reward. The event, which attracted 31 female competitors from across the country, formed part of the Ghana Table Tennis Association’s objectives of promoting and enhancing women’s participation in the sport. The second edition has been scheduled for Saturday, 14th February at the Hathramani sports hall.
