Accra, Ghana - The New Voter Forum (NVF) has expressed deep concern over the delayed payment of cocoa farmers nationwide, citing the potential negative impact on the sector and Ghana's economy.
In a statement released on February 11, 2026, the NVF acknowledged the funding challenges facing the Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD) but emphasized that the delays are unacceptable and raise questions about the government's commitment to the sector.
The Forum urged the government and COCOBOD to take urgent action to address the issue, calling for:
- Immediate payment of outstanding dues to cocoa farmers
- Transparent updates on payment schedules
- Collective action to address funding challenges and prevent future delays
The NVF emphasized the need for honest conversations and collective responsibility to salvage the precarious situation in the cocoa sector, a crucial engine of Ghana's economy.
The statement expressed hope that COCOBOD management would work hard to prevent similar situations in the future.
The NVF's statement has been met with widespread concern among Ghanaians, who are calling for swift action to address the issue and support the country's cocoa farmers.
