London, United Kingdom — 12 November 2025
UK Sport has extended warm congratulations to Mr. Samson Deen on his re-election as President of the African Paralympic Committee (AfPC), praising his leadership and the successful delivery of the 2025 AfPC General Assembly held in Accra, Ghana.
In an official letter signed by Prof. Nick Webborn CBE DL, Chair of UK Sport, the organisation commended President Deen’s “continued leadership and dedication to advancing the Paralympic Movement in Africa,” describing the outcome of the General Assembly as a testament to his commitment to unity, inclusion, and empowerment of para-athletes across the continent.
Prof. Webborn highlighted the growing role of the Commonwealth Sports Movement in shaping para sport development globally and in Africa. He referenced his recent engagement with Donald Rukare, President-elect of Commonwealth Sports, who expressed keen interest in strengthening para sport pathways and collaboration in the lead-up to Glasgow 2026, where para sports will constitute 60% of the programme.
The letter also underscored the impact of successful initiatives such as the GAPS programme, which has delivered transformative para sport interventions across the Commonwealth.
Looking ahead, UK Sport proposed a strategic meeting in London after the upcoming elections, bringing together President Deen, President Rukare, and the British Paralympic Association to explore new avenues for expanding support to African para sports federations and fostering stronger NPC–NOC partnerships across the region.
“We look forward to continuing our collaboration with the African Paralympic Committee under your leadership,” Prof. Webborn wrote, reaffirming UK Sport’s commitment to strengthening regional and international cooperation in promoting Paralympic values.
