The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Ghana (NMC) has inducted a new batch of Nurse Assistants, Nurses, and Midwives into the noble profession of nursing and midwifery. The induction ceremony, held across four zonal centers nationwide, marked a significant milestone in the careers of the new professionals.

In her speech, Philomina A. N. Woolley, Registrar of the NMC, congratulated the inductees on their achievement and reminded them of the weight of responsibility that comes with being a healthcare professional. "Today marks not only the culmination of years of hard work and sacrifice but also the formal beginning of your professional journey," she said.

Woolley emphasized the importance of ethics and integrity in the profession, urging the inductees to adhere to the Code of Conduct and Ethics of their profession. "You will be called upon to make complex decisions under pressure, often in situations where compassion and judgment are tested," she said. "Always treat every patient and service user with respect, dignity, and compassion."

The Registrar also stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development, noting that healthcare is constantly evolving with new research, technologies, and best practices. "Embrace education, seek mentorship, and engage in reflective practice," she advised. "Never allow your knowledge to stagnate; instead, pursue excellence through continuous improvement."

Professor Peter Adatara, Dean of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, University of Health and Allied Sciences (UHAS), also congratulated the newly qualified professionals and urged them to uphold the highest standards of integrity, empathy, and excellence in their practice.

"Nursing and midwifery are not just professions, but sacred callings that demand skill, knowledge, and humanity," he said. "Each day, you will encounter people in pain, fear, or uncertainty. In those moments, your words, gestures, and touch will mean more than medicine. Your competence will treat them, but your compassion will heal them."

The induction ceremony was a celebration of the new professionals' commitment to the noble profession of nursing and midwifery. As guardians of life and human dignity, they are expected to uphold the values of compassion, excellence, and integrity.
