Accra, Ghana - The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEAG) celebrated its 11th anniversary with a powerful message of resilience, transparency, and economic empowerment during its landmark event on August 6, 2025.

Led by Mr. Samson Asaki Awingobit, the association's General Secretary, the event highlighted a transformative journey that began in 2014 with a mission to address systemic challenges facing Ghana's maritime trade sector. What started as a small initiative by passionate individuals has evolved into a formidable advocacy platform representing importers and exporters across 16 regions.

The association proudly showcased significant victories, including:

- Successfully challenging terminal handling charges imposed by shipping lines

- Instrumental in passing the Ghana Space Act of 2022

- Advocating for transparency in port charges and procedures

- Pushing for stakeholder consultation on critical trade policies

Mr. Awingobit used the platform to highlight pressing national economic concerns, particularly:

1. Foreign Exchange Accessibility: Calling on the Bank of Ghana to establish a unified forex rate system

2. Data Security Tensions: Expressing concern over the dispute between the National Identification Authority and Ghana Revenue Authority

3. High Interest Rates and Banking Challenges

The association unveiled its new website (www.ieag.ghana.com), positioning it as more than just a digital address but a real-time platform for transparency, member engagement, and policy dialogue.

The organization acknowledged crucial partnerships with key institutions, including:

- Ghana Port and Harbor Authority

- Ghana Revenue Authority

- Ghana Maritime Authority

- Ghana Export Promotion Authority

Looking ahead, the IEAG aims to:

- Expand regional presence

- Enhance digital compliance tools

- Build a more informed membership network

- Continue advocating for fair trade practices

The event symbolized more than an anniversary celebration - it represented a decade of persistent advocacy, strategic engagement, and commitment to transforming Ghana's import-export landscape.

Dignitaries from government agencies, diplomatic corps, and industry players attended the event, underscoring the association's growing influence and credibility in Ghana's economic ecosystem.

The comprehensive narrative reflects the IEAG's journey from a small advocacy group to a respected institutional voice championing the interests of importers and exporters nationwide.
