GRNMA Secures Major Breakthrough in Collective Agreement Negotiations

In a pivotal press conference held today, the Ghana Registered Nurses and Midwives Association (GRNMA) announced significant progress in their ongoing negotiations for improved working conditions and compensation.

Led by President Mrs. Perpetual Ofori-Ampofo, the association revealed key outcomes from a critical meeting with the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission on July 15, 2025, marking a potential turning point for healthcare professionals in Ghana.

The press statement outlined several crucial agreements, including the resolution of long-standing disputes over allowances and professional development. Most notably, the employer committed to addressing market premium distortions and implementing a comprehensive package of financial and professional benefits.

Key highlights include:

- An 8% non-basic allowance to recognize nurses' market value

- Full allowances to be paid at government-approved rates

- Implementation of continuous professional development allowances

- Ensuring all nurses are professionally licensed by December 31, 2025

Mrs. Ofori-Ampofo emphasized the critical role nurses play in Ghana's economic development, stating that their contributions ensure a healthy population and directly increase productivity across formal and informal sectors.

Significantly, the association has suspended planned industrial actions, demonstrating a collaborative approach to resolving workplace concerns. The decision reflects a strategic shift towards constructive dialogue and negotiation.
