The Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) has been commended for its transparency after making its 2025 gold trading reports publicly available, providing stakeholders with detailed weekly information on its gold purchasing operations and related financing.
Data scientist Alfred, in a post on X, praised GoldBod's disclosure, highlighting the level of detail contained in the published reports.
According to him, the reports provide a weekly breakdown of funds provided by the Bank of Ghana (BoG) to GoldBod, the volume of gold expected to be supplied, the actual quantity supplied, and the variances recorded.
He said his review of the 2025 trade reports showed a GH¢3.8 billion variance, with a significant portion of the amount resulting from inflows towards the end of the year.
Alfred further noted that the amount is also recorded as a payable to the Bank of Ghana in GoldBod's audited financial statements, providing a clear link between the institution's trade reporting and its independently audited financial disclosures.
"When I say state entities need to learn more about transparency from the new kid on the block, GoldBod, I really mean it," Alfred said in his post. "The 2025 trading reports are publicly available again. You can get a weekly breakdown of how much money the Bank of Ghana provided to GoldBod, how much gold was expected to be supplied, how much was actually supplied, and the variances."
He said the availability of the detailed trade reports demonstrated the value of making operational and financial information accessible to the public, particularly in the case of state entities handling significant public resources.
Alfred contrasted GoldBod's disclosure with what he described as the failure of some long-established state entities to publish annual reports, urging such institutions to improve their public reporting and transparency.
The commendation comes as GoldBod continues to make information on its gold trading operations and financial performance accessible to stakeholders.
The publication of the detailed 2025 trade reports gives stakeholders access to weekly data on financing, expected gold deliveries, actual deliveries and variances, offering greater visibility into the operations of the national gold aggregation system.
Since its establishment, GoldBod has shown that transparency and accountability are truly at the core of its operations.
Aside from the trade reports, GoldBod publishes quarterly reports on its website, consisting of operational and financial details as well as major achievements within the period.
