Ghana set to host the 28th Annual Scientific Conference of the Association of Medical Councils of Africa (AMCA) this August, organizers announced at an official media launch held at the Medical and Dental Council’s office complex.
Dr. Divine Banyubala, Registrar of the Medical and Dental Council, delivered the welcome remarks on behalf of the conference chairman and the 11th Council board, outlining the conference’s goals and program focus.
Set for August 24–26 at the Ambassador Hotel in Accra, the conference will convene medical and dental regulatory authorities, health policymakers, academics, professional associations, development partners and other stakeholders from across Africa and beyond.
Themed “Responsive Regulation for Safer Communities towards Universal Health Coverage,” the gathering aims to strengthen regulatory systems to meet rapid changes in healthcare ranging from digital health and artificial intelligence to cross-border practitioner movement and emerging infectious threats.
Dr. Divine Banyubala said the conference will examine five key subthemes: inclusive regulation (ensuring fairness, transparency and competence), regulatory science (capacity-building in evidence-driven regulation), practitioner policy harmonization (facilitating professional mobility and common standards), data exchange infrastructure (secure verification and fraud prevention across borders), and regulation in humanitarian and fragile settings (maintaining patient safety in crisis contexts).
Delegates will be invited to exchange ideas, share best practices, and develop practical solutions to common regulatory challenges.
Ghana’s selection as host underscores the country’s reputation for democratic stability and recent progressive health sector reforms, organizers noted. The conference will feature high-level participation, including an opening by the President of Ghana on August 24 and a historic closing by the Speaker of Parliament on August 26—an unprecedented level of government engagement for the Association.
