The International Organization for Migration (IOM) Ghana, with support from the European Union under the ATUU – A Ghanaian European Safe and Prosperous People’s Mobility Project, has handed over critical emergency response equipment to the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), boosting the operational capacity of Emergency Operations Centers across the Greater Accra, Upper East, and Upper West Regions.
The intervention follows targeted capacity-building training for NADMO personnel and marks a decisive shift from preparedness on paper to preparedness in action. With enhanced data management, communication tools, and reliable power systems now in place, emergency responders are better positioned to manage crises linked to climate shocks, environmental hazards, and displacement.
In the short term, the investment strengthens readiness and real-time decision-making. Over the long term, it reinforces national disaster response systems, builds public confidence in state emergency mechanisms, and ensures that vulnerable communities and people on the move are better protected when disasters strike.
Aligned with the disaster preparedness and response priorities of the Government of Ghana and the Ministry of the Interior, the initiative reflects IOM’s broader commitment to strengthening migration governance, advancing climate-responsive solutions, and delivering tangible humanitarian impact through practical, operational support.
The intervention underscores the power of strategic partnerships—demonstrating how targeted investments can translate capacity-building efforts into durable, life-saving outcomes, ensuring that no community is left behind when emergencies occur.
