Ampem Darkoa Ladies clinched their fifth Women’s Premier League title after a 2-1 victory over rivals Hasaacas Ladies in the championship playoff of the 2025/26 Malta Guinness Women’s Premier League, played on Sunday, April 19, at the Swedru Stadium.
The Northern Zone champions earned the title following a disciplined second-half response after trailing 1-0 at halftime. Ampem Darkoa booked their place in the playoff after finishing top of the Northern Zone with 37 points from 18 matches, recording 11 wins, four draws, and three defeats.
Hasaacas Ladies took the lead before the break, but Ampem Darkoa returned with improved organization and intent in the second half. Their efforts were rewarded when Priscilla Okyere scored the equaliser, her fifth goal of the season.
Sustained pressure from the flanks, led by Victoria Banful, Mariam Olawumi, Gloria Ameaa Adomako, and Ajegipena Zakaria, gradually tilted the contest in Ampem Darkoa’s favour. The decisive moment came in the 83rd minute when Gloria Ameaa Adomako found the net to complete the turnaround, repeating the same 2-1 scoreline that had earlier seen Ampem Darkoa eliminated by Hasaacas in the 2025/26 Women’s FA Cup.
The win secured Ampem Darkoa Ladies’ fifth league title and earned them the right to represent Ghana in the WAFU B Women’s Champions League, with qualification prospects extending to the CAF Women’s Champions League.
Ampem Darkoa concluded the season with 12 Most Valuable Player awards, scoring 45 goals and conceding 22. Forward Ajegipena Zakaria finished as the league’s top scorer with 13 goals, while head coach William Afoakwa was named Coach of the Season.
The champions were presented with medals and the Women’s Premier League trophy, reinforcing their sustained dominance of the Northern Zone which they have represented continuously since the 2012/2013 season.
