Aboso Traditional Leaders Warn NDC Chairman Against Galamsey Activities

The Nananom of Aboso have issued a stern warning to the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Aboso branch chairman, Mr. Dela, to refrain from engaging in galamsey activities on their lands. The traditional leaders accuse Mr. Dela of undermining their efforts to combat illegal mining and threatening the peace and security of the community.

The Nananom of Aboso had taken action to clear illegal miners from their lands, receiving commendations from various stakeholders. However, Mr. Dela openly criticized the traditional leadership and government for their efforts to eradicate galamsey, claiming he knows the Lands Minister personally and will ensure the plan to clear the "Gangway" area is blocked.

Galamsey Activities, The Nananom of Aboso have taken a firm stance against galamsey, citing its destructive impact on their lands and water bodies.

NDC Chairman's Comments, Mr. Dela's comments have been deemed unfortunate and worrying, with the traditional leaders calling on the President and key ministries to act accordingly.

- *Fake Chief:* The Nananom of Aboso have also warned against a self-proclaimed rival chief, Nana Asante, who allegedly instigates the NDC group involved in galamsey activities.

The government has been urged to take immediate action to halt illegal mining activities in Ghana. The Attorney General has directed the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to investigate alleged illegal mining activities involving certain individuals, including NDC's national Organizer Joseph Yamin and third vice chairman Yakubu Abanga.

The Nananom of Aboso are urging government officials, including the Member of Parliament and the Lands Minister, to ensure the NDC executives stay away from their lands and perpetrate no further galamsey activities. The traditional leaders are determined to defend and protect their lands, citing the importance of upholding the rule of law and respecting traditional institutions.

Ghana's fight against galamsey has been ongoing, with efforts to curb illegal mining facing challenges due to corruption and "democracy capture" by political and economic elites. The issue has sparked debates about the role of traditional leaders, government officials, and the mining industry in addressing the problem ¹ ² ⁴.
