Ghana’s Black Maidens set for crucial Senegal test in final World Cup qualifying round

Ghana’s U-17 women’s side, the Black Maidens, will travel to the Diamniadio–Abdoulaye Wade Stadium Annex on 3rd July for a crucial final round clash in the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers against Senegal.

The Black Maidens head into the decisive encounter in fine form, having powered through the earlier rounds with dominant performances. They first swept aside Togo with an 8–0 aggregate victory before repeating the same scoreline against Liberia to book their place in the final qualifying round.

Ghana have been ruthless in attack and solid at the back, scoring 16 goals without conceding a single goal across the qualifiers so far.

A major boost for Coach Nana Joe Adarkwa’s side has been the attacking contributions of key players. Priscilla Mensah has scored 4 goals, Seidatu Wahab has added 3 goals, while Juliana Gyekewaa has contributed 2 goals, forming part of Ghana’s 16-goal tally in the campaign.

Senegal, however, present a strong challenge of their own. They edged Tunisia 3–2 on aggregate before a tense tie against Cameroon, which ended level over two legs and was decided by penalties, where Senegal triumphed 5–4.

On paper, the numbers set up an intriguing clash, Ghana come in with 16 goals scored and none conceded, while Senegal have scored 8 and conceded 6.

The Black Maidens will be chasing a long-awaited return to the global stage after an eight-year absence. Ghana’s best-ever performance at the tournament remains their historic 2012 campaign, where they finished third after a 1–0 win over Germany, a match remembered for Priscilla Okyere’s winning goal under coach Mas-Ud Didi Dramani.

With form, confidence, and defensive discipline on their side, the Black Maidens will be aiming to complete the job away and home and secure qualification to the biggest stage once again.
