The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana (IEG) has called on President John Dramani Mahama to immediately terminate the contract between the Ghana Revenue Authority and Strategic Mobilization Ghana Limited (SML).

In a press conference, Samson Asaki Awingobit, Executive Secretary of the association, revealed that SML continues to receive $1.4 million monthly despite a previous presidential directive suspending the contract.

The organization argues that the National Petroleum Authority already has its own digital monitoring system, making SML's services redundant.

The association highlighted several concerns, including:

- The contract was awarded without competitive bidding

- SML lacks expertise in revenue assurance

- Unverified claims of $3 billion in savings

- Potential conflict of interest in contract management

The group demands five key actions:

1. Terminate the SML downstream petroleum contract

2. Publish the full KPMG audit report

3. Recover funds paid for unnecessary services

4. Blacklist SML and investigate officials involved

5. Implement reforms to prevent sole-source contracts

The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana calls on President Mahama to fulfill his campaign promises and take decisive action against what they describe as a fraudulent and wasteful contract.
