Nigeria's High Commissioner to Ghana, Ambassador Shehu Ilu Barde, has marked Nigeria's 65th independence anniversary with a call for reinforced diplomatic and economic cooperation between Abuja and Accra.
Addressing diplomats, government officials, and members of the Nigerian community in Ghana during the October 1st celebrations, Ambassador Barde reflected on Nigeria's 66-year journey since independence, paying tribute to the nation's founding fathers whose sacrifices and leadership laid the foundation for Nigeria's contemporary global standing.
He described the anniversary as a vital unifying moment for Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.
Ambassador Barde emphasized the deeply rooted historical and cultural ties connecting Nigeria and Ghana, describing the two nations as strategic partners in West Africa's development.
He outlined a strategic vision to expand cooperation across critical sectors including:

- Tourism and broader socio-economic partnerships
The High Commissioner expressed optimism that enhanced bilateral engagement will drive broader prosperity across the ECOWAS sub-region through robust collaboration.
On the domestic front, Ambassador Barde commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's administration for ongoing national security reforms and efforts to combat criminality and strengthen economic stability.

Representing President John Dramani Mahama, Ghana's Minister for Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, delivered a formal congratulatory message to President Tinubu and the people of Nigeria.
