The National Sports Authority (NSA) has launched a new consultative approach to its flagship Constituency Games, inviting media organizations to participate in the planning and oversight of the nationwide program ahead of a proposed October 2026 roll-out.
Speaking at a press engagement at the NSP Hotel, Samson Deen, Chairman of the Resource Mobilization and Partnership Committee of the NSA governing board, said the Authority is changing the traditional practice of briefing the media only after decisions are made. “We have decided that we shall involve the media in every aspect of the recent Ghana sport agenda,” Deen said, describing the session as a professional “stress test” designed to surface blind spots, challenge assumptions and strengthen the program before launch.
The Constituency Games are proposed as a six-month phased initiative beginning October 2026, subject to formal validation and approval. The NSA plans to publish a definitive Constituency Games handbook that will consolidate stakeholder input and be made available on official websites and mobile apps. Key planning areas flagged for further work include logistics, venue readiness, budgets, finance discipline and operational responsibilities.
Deen said the NSA has already engaged sport federations in detailed consultations, holding a near-full-house, three-hour question-and-answer session with federation representatives. The Authority intends to continue engagement with ministers of state, Parliament and community stakeholders, and has initiated partner and sponsorship discussions.
A central theme of the session was media partnership in promoting fairness, accountability and public confidence. The NSA asked each participating media organization to:
- Submit one recommendation to improve fairness, safety or verifiability in the Games;
- Nominate a newsroom focal person to maintain an ongoing flow of verified information; and
- Follow at least one constituency story from registration through to outcomes, holding the process to discussed standards.
Deen said the NSA will reciprocate by providing timely information, distinguishing confirmed decisions from provisional proposals and correcting the public record when necessary. “Let us build public confidence before publicity,” he said.
The consultative approach aims to ensure the Constituency Games are accessible beyond Accra, equitable across communities, and resilient from a public security perspective. Media representatives were encouraged to identify weaknesses and offer stronger solutions so the initiative “leaves this room more credible, inclusive and accountable,” Deen added.
Next steps outlined by the NSA include finalizing stakeholder consultations, incorporating media inputs into the Constituency Games handbook, and completing operational validations ahead of the October start date. The Authority reiterated that any program timeline or budget remains provisional until formally approved.
