The Government of Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to expanding access to quality healthcare as 118 newly qualified doctors and dentists were formally inducted into practice by the Medical and Dental Council (MDC) in Accra.
The induction ceremony, held under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act, 2013 Act 857, was led by Dr. Divine Ndonbi Banyubala, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Medical and Dental Council.
Representing the Minister for Health, Dr. Hafiz Adam, Director of Technical Coordination at the Ministry of Health, said the new cohort will help strengthen Ghana’s health workforce of over 14,000 professionals.
“On behalf of the government and the Ministry of Health, I extend my warmest congratulations to you all. Your journey to this point has been defined by discipline, perseverance, and sacrifice,” Dr. Adam said.
He urged the inductees to uphold the highest ethical standards, describing their professional oath as a “solemn covenant of humanity.”
“Whilst your knowledge will earn you respect, it is your humility that will earn you trust,” he told them. Dr. Adam also expressed gratitude to families, lecturers, and mentors for their support.
Dr. Adam said government, in partnership with the Medical and Dental Council, remains committed to enforcing ethical standards and expanding access to care through the Free Primary Healthcare policy, also known as ProCare, which was launched two months ago in Obuasi.
He further congratulated the Council on the commissioning of *Phase One of its Cancer Specialist Training Center and new Head Office complex, describing it as a symbol of progress in medical and dental regulation. He pledged government’s support for Phase Two of the project.
In his address, Dr. Banyubala said the induction is “not merely symbolic” but “a public affirmation of competence, of character, and commitment.”
“As the statutory body mandated to ensure only qualified persons practice medicine and dentistry in Ghana, the Council is charging you to uphold competence, compassion, and integrity,” he stated.
“From today, you bear primary professional responsibility for the lives entrusted to you. You are now custodians of public trust,” he added.
The 118 inductees received provisional registration to begin their housemanship at accredited health facilities across the country.

University of Ghana Medical School, Accra.
University of Ghana Dental School, Accra.
KNUST School of Medical Sciences, Kumasi.
KNUST School of Dentistry, Kumasi.
Family Health Medical School, Teshie, Accra.
University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences.
The ceremony was attended by officials of the Ministry of Health, the Medical and Dental Council, as well as families, friends, and well-wishers who joined both physically and online.
