Palestinian People Mark 50th Anniversary of Land Day, Reaffirm Commitment to National Struggle

 Story by: Paul Mensah Nsor

As the world marks the 50th anniversary of Land Day, the Palestinian people reflect on the ongoing brutality of the Israeli occupation and reaffirm their commitment to their national struggle. The day, observed on March 30, commemorates the killing of six Palestinian protesters by Israeli forces in 1976, marking a turning point in the Palestinian resistance against Israeli occupation.

Ongoing Occupation and Human Rights Violations

The Israeli occupation continues to dominate the daily lives of Palestinians, with over 72,134 people killed, including 18,592 children, and more than 4,700 still missing. The Gaza Strip, described as a "prison", has been flattened, and its people subjected to inhumane conditions. The West Bank is being gradually annexed, with settler violence and armed militias intensifying, backed by the occupation army.

Numerous UN reports and international organizations have documented these violations, describing Israel as a settler-colonial occupying power and an apartheid state. The Palestinian people remain subjected to movement restrictions, forced displacement, and racial discrimination.

Palestinian Commitment to Peace and Self-Determination

Despite the ongoing aggression, the Palestinian people reaffirm their commitment to the political and diplomatic path, seeking a just and comprehensive peace based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution. They demand an end to the occupation, the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and the right of return for refugees.

International Community Urged to Act

The Palestinian people call on the international community to hold Israel accountable for its actions, to end the occupation, and to support the Palestinian people's legitimate rights. The anniversary of Land Day serves as a reminder of the Palestinian people's deep bond with their land and their determination to achieve their just and legitimate rights.

Key Demands

- End to Israeli occupation and settlement expansion

- Establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital

- Right of return for Palestinian refugees

- Accountability for Israeli human rights violations

- Support for Palestinian people's legitimate rights and national struggle

The Palestinian people will continue to strive for a just and comprehensive peace, rejecting displacement and compromise on their legitimate rights. The world must act to end the occupation and support the Palestinian people's quest for self-determination and statehood.
