Ghana has welcomed the Kimberley Process Review Team to Accra for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) Review Visit, taking place from March 9-12, 2026. The event is being held at the Movenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra.
In a welcome address, Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD), emphasized Ghana's commitment to transparency, accountability, and responsible governance of the international diamond trade. He highlighted the country's strong inter-agency coordination and robust export controls, traceability systems, and verification protocols to ensure conflict-free and responsibly sourced diamonds.
Gyamfi noted that Ghana has undertaken reforms to strengthen governance across the diamond value chain, including improvements in inspection and verification mechanisms, internal control systems, and capacity building for technical personnel. He viewed the Review Visit as an opportunity for constructive engagement, peer review, and institutional strengthening.
The Review Visit aims to assess Ghana's implementation of Kimberley Process requirements and provide recommendations for further improvement. Ghana, serving as Vice Chair of the Kimberley Process this year, is set to assume the Chairmanship in 2027.
The event brings together representatives from Participant Countries, regulatory institutions, industry stakeholders, and civil society organizations. Technical teams will provide briefings on Ghana's legal and regulatory framework, export and certification procedures, and internal control systems.
The Kimberley Process is an international initiative aimed at preventing the trade of conflict diamonds, which fuel violence and human rights abuses. Its members account for approximately 99.8% of global diamond production.
