Sharon Dede Padi, a renowned Ghanaian visual artist and architect, has made history by setting the Guinness World Record for the largest leaf print painting. The masterpiece, measuring 54.33 square meters, showcases the Ghanaian national flag and took months of research, planning, and refinement to complete.
Padi's achievement is not only a testament to her artistic skill but also a celebration of Ghana's cultural heritage and natural resources. The leaf prints used in the artwork represent various regions and cultural traditions across the country, highlighting the importance of preserving indigenous knowledge and biodiversity.
"This record is a platform to project Ghanaian art and culture to the world," Padi said. "Through this work, I hope to inspire young artists in Ghana and across Africa to pursue creativity, innovation, and excellence".
The artwork has garnered attention from government officials, including the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Hon. Abla Dzifa Gomashie, who praised Padi's achievement and encouraged her to document and categorize the leaves used in the artwork.
Padi plans to collaborate with various ministries and institutions to install the artwork at a designated tourist site, contributing to Ghana's tourism sector and promoting cultural exchange. She also intends to launch a foundation to support art education initiatives for underprivileged communities.
