Accra, Ghana - The Importers and Exporters Association of Ghana held a press conference to review the 2025 business performance and address current happenings in Ghana's port sector. The association highlighted the progress made in revenue mobilization, macroeconomic stabilization, and trade facilitation reforms.

According to the Executive Secretary, Samson Asaki Awingobit , customs revenue increased to US$3,179,125,238.11 as of September 2025, up from US$3,108,226,482.40 in 2024. The association also commended the government for abolishing the 1% COVID-19 health recovery levy and adjusting the VAT rate from 21.9% to 20%, aimed at supporting business competitiveness.

However, Samson Asaki Awingobit, raised concerns about the planned introduction of an AI-driven system at Ghana's ports, citing lack of transparency and stakeholder engagement. The association questioned the technical expertise of Truedare Investments Limited, a Cyprus-registered entity, which has been reportedly awarded a contract for the project.

The association emphasized the need for compatibility with the existing Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS), data control and sovereignty, and stakeholder engagement. The association also highlighted the risks associated with relying on ICUMS data, including data sovereignty risk, system duplication, and cybersecurity exposure.

- Lack of transparency and stakeholder engagement in the AI system project

- Technical expertise of Truedare Investments Limited

- Compatibility with ICUMS

- Data control and sovereignty

- Cybersecurity exposure

Recommendations:

The association urged the government to ensure due diligence and stakeholder inclusion in decisions regarding critical digital infrastructure.
