Accra, Ghana - The Africa Centre for Energy Policy (ACEP) and Solar Taxi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the GET-CADEP PROJECT, marking a significant milestone in the promotion of green energy empowerment in Ghana.

The partnership aims to support the Green Energy Empowerment Program, a flagship initiative of ACEP that seeks to equip 200 young Ghanaian women with cutting-edge skills in green energy technologies over the next three years. The program focuses on building capacity in e-mobility, solar technology, battery systems, and energy storage, with the goal of bridging the persistent gender gap in technical and scientific fields.

Kodzo Yaotse, Policy Lead for Petroleum and Conventional Energy at ACEP, emphasized the organization's commitment to creating "greener, fairer" pathways in the energy sector. "This program is more than just a training initiative," he said. "We are creating a pipeline of future engineers, innovators, and entrepreneurs who will drive Ghana's clean energy transformation."

Solar Taxi, a pioneering company in electric mobility innovation, brings its expertise in transforming transportation and promoting gender inclusivity to the partnership. CEO Jorge Appia highlighted the company's mission to challenge traditional industry norms and create opportunities for women in the electric vehicle value chain.

"We recruited women based on interest, not previous educational background," Appia said. "We have those who were nurses, housewives – women who could read and understand, and we transformed them into skilled engineers."

The partnership is supported by the Ford Foundation's Jet Plus Initiative and is expected to have a profound impact on Ghana's energy landscape. By prioritizing women's participation in the green energy sector, the initiative directly supports Ghana's just transition agenda and promotes gender equity.

The program's comprehensive approach includes mentorship, entrepreneurship guidance, and professional development pathways, ensuring that participants are equipped to drive meaningful change in their communities and beyond.

"This partnership marks a significant step towards realizing our vision of a greener, more inclusive energy future," said Yaotse. "We are excited to work with Solar Taxi and other stakeholders to empower young Ghanaian women and drive Ghana's clean energy transformation."
