A group of aggrieved Ghanaian youths, led by Hassan Ayarega, Founder and Leader of the All People’s Congress (APC), organized a street walk to raise concerns about the recent influx of foreigners, particularly Nigerians, into the country. The protesters urged the government to establish a robust documentation system to track the activities of foreigners and address the perceived social vices and crimes associated with them
The protesters demand that the government provide proper documentation for foreigners living in Ghana, enabling the authorities to track the upsurge of crime and social vices.
Regulation of Foreigners in the Retail Sector, The group expressed concerns that Nigerians have taken over the retail sector, which is constitutionally reserved for Ghanaians, making it challenging for local businesses to compete.
The protesters appealed to the government to take action to address their concerns, emphasizing that Ghana has the right to establish its own protocols regarding foreign nationals without interfering with ECOWAS policies. Peter Donkor, Spokesperson for Apex Ghana, emphasized the need for the government to gain clear insight into foreigners who consistently violate Ghana’s laws and ensure a level playing field for local entrepreneurs.
Hassan Ayarega also alleged that some Nigerians are obtaining Ghanaian passports through dubious means, raising concerns about national security and identity.
The protesters called on all Ghanaians to come out and voice their concerns about the perceived ill behaviors of some Nigerians in the country. They emphasized the need for the government to act on behalf of its citizens and address their concerns [1].
