Story by Nsor Paul Mensah

In celebration of International Women's Day, AGOSA, in collaboration with Women in Water, Sanitation and Health, (WIWASH) hosted a symposium for students of Accra Girls Senior High School. The event, themed "Accelerating Action Through Guidance," brought together experts in various fields to inspire and educate the young girls on career opportunities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) and beyond.

The symposium was a resounding success, with over hundreds of students in attendance. Led by WIWASH Ghana President, Madam Faustina Boachie, the experts shared their experiences and insights on career paths such as Geospatial Science and Engineering, Water Quality Assurance, Communication, Community Development, and more.

One of the highlights of the event was the presence of Adiza Alhassan, an AGOSA 2016 alumna who is now part of the Ghana Water Company Artificial Intelligence team. Her story served as a shining example of what can be achieved with hard work and determination.

Prof. Adelaide Katsner, a renowned expert in her field, encouraged the students to seek out mentors who can guide them in achieving their goals. She also called on stakeholders to support women and girls in schools and industries, emphasizing the importance of creating a level playing field for all.

The students were actively engaged throughout the symposium, asking relevant questions and seeking clarification on various career opportunities. The event concluded with a special shoutout to Prof. Naana Jane Opoku-Agyeman, Ghana's current and first female Vice-President, who embodies the spirit of women's empowerment and leadership.

The symposium was a testament to the power of collaboration and the importance of empowering young minds. AGOSA and WIWASH are to be commended for their efforts in inspiring and educating the next generation of leaders. As the global theme of #iwd2025 emphasizes, it is time to "Accelerate Action for a Gender-Equal World."
