Hon. Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister of Environment, Science, and Technology, continued his agency tour today, visiting the CSIR Water and Food research facilities in Accra. The minister expressed his enthusiasm for commercializing the research output, emphasizing the potential for generating significant revenue to support various agencies.
During his visit, Hon. Dr. Muhammed highlighted the importance of leveraging research institutions to drive economic growth and development.
He noted that these institutions have the capacity to provide essential services, such as school feeding programs, and that the government should explore ways to support and empower them.
The minister also emphasized the need to build the capacity of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), particularly women engaged in fish smoking along the coast.
He recognized the technical expertise of these entrepreneurs and expressed his commitment to supporting them through state-led initiatives.
On the issue of land management, Hon. Dr. Muhammed expressed concerns about the government's decision to allocate prime lands to private developers.
He questioned the wisdom of giving up valuable land without addressing the underlying challenges and called for alternative solutions that prioritize state-led development.
The minister's visit to the CSIR Water and Food research facilities underscores his commitment to promoting research and development in Ghana. As a member of President John Dramani Mahama's administration, Hon. Dr. Muhammed is keenly aware of the importance of supporting research institutions and empowering local entrepreneurs to drive economic growth and development.
