Accra-Ghana - In a move to enhance sanitation standards and promote a conducive learning environment, Vivo Energy Ghana has commissioned a renovated washroom facility at the La Enobal Basic School. The event, which took place on January 23, 2025, was attended by a host of dignitaries, including the Municipal Director of Education, the La Traditional Council, headmasters, and staff from the school.
Kilai Muasya, the Finance Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, delivered the keynote address, emphasizing the company's vision to become the leading and most respected energy business in Africa. This vision, he stated, extends beyond their core business operations and encompasses a commitment to addressing the social and developmental needs of the communities they serve.
"By providing La Enobal Basic School with a modern washroom facility, we aim to enhance the sanitation standards for the students and staff, creating an environment that is more conducive for both learning and personal well-being," Muasya said.
The renovation works undertaken by Vivo Energy Ghana involved the conversion of pit latrines to water closets, the installation of urinal bowls and handwashing basins for both male and female bathrooms, and the provision of a dedicated washroom facility for the teachers. Additionally, the company installed a 2,500-liter overhead water tank to ensure a regular supply of water.
Finance Manager Mausya highlighted the alignment of this initiative with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all. He emphasized the far-reaching impact of such projects, citing research that every dollar invested in water and sanitation resources can yield an economic return of $4 through increased productivity and reduced health costs.
The La Enobal Basic School community expressed their gratitude for the renovated facility, acknowledging the positive impact it will have on the students' education and overall well-being. Stakeholders, including students, teachers, and parents, were encouraged to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper use and maintenance.
Vivo Energy's commitment to sustainable development and community empowerment was evident in this project, as the company continues to lead by example and work alongside stakeholders to build thriving communities across Ghana.
