ACEG Condemns Vandalism, Calls for Responsible Takeover of Government Institutions

Accra, January 9, 2025 - The Arise for Change for Economic Growth (ACEG), a political group that supported the election of President John Mahama, has condemned the vandalism and illegal takeover of government institutions by some NDC supporters following the inauguration of the new president.

In a media engagement held at the Freedom Center in Kokomlemle, Accra, the ACEG national chairman, D.S. Mahama Iddrisu, stated that while the group had encouraged NDC supporters to responsibly take over offices to prevent the outgoing officials from looting state assets, they should not engage in vandalism.

"ACEG disagrees with the stance of the Greater Regional Chairman of the NDC, Hon. Emmanuel Nii Ashie Moore, who has called for the arrest of these NDC activists. Though their approach is wrong, they are not wrong in taking over the institutions," Iddrisu said.

The ACEG chairman urged the NDC grassroots to go ahead and take over the institutions, but cautioned them against targeting civil servants. He also revealed that some vehicles stolen by the outgoing NPP appointees have been retrieved through these operations.

Iddrisu emphasized that the victory of the NDC cannot be attributed to just an individual or a group, but to the collective efforts of all members of ACEG and the good people of Ghana. He expressed sincere appreciation to all ACEG members and Ghanaians for their hard work and support in the election.

The ACEG's stance on the issue comes amid concerns raised by the government over the alleged invasion and locking up of government institutions by NDC supporters, preventing civil servants from carrying out their duties. The group's call for a responsible takeover aims to ensure a smooth transition of power and prevent further disruptions to the functioning of government institutions.
