Unprecedented Media Access Granted for Ghana's Elections- Jean Mansah

Story By Nsor Paul Mensah

In a historic move, the Ghanaian Electoral Commission has granted unprecedented access to the media for the country's ongoing elections. The Commission has accredited over 10,000 media personnel to cover activities at polling stations, constituency collation centers, regional collation centers, and the national collation center.

Speaking at a press conference, the Electoral Commission chairperson emphasized the values of transparency, accountability, and inclusiveness that are guiding this decision. "By enabling our media partners to cover all aspects of our work, we will inject the needed transparency into all aspects of our work. This will provide the citizen role with vital information and help eliminate and reduce completely the suspicions that had either to characterize our way."

The chairperson urged the media to provide up-to-date situation reports and address any concerns raised by citizens over the next three days. A toll-free number has also been made available for citizens to call in with issues, which the Commission has pledged to address in a timely manner.

"We encourage you, the citizens of this nation, to walk this journey with us, a journey of transparency, a journey of responsiveness, a journey of accountability to use the citizenry, and a journey of inclusiveness," the chairperson stated.

This unprecedented level of media access is seen as a significant step towards ensuring the integrity and credibility of Ghana's electoral process. By empowering the media and the public, the Electoral Commission aims to build trust and confidence in the democratic process.
