Accra, Ghana - The chairperson of the Electoral Commission has provided an update on the ongoing collation of results from the December 7th, 2024 general elections.
Addressing the press, international observers, political parties representatives, the Electoral Commission chairperson Jean Mensa assured the public and the media that, the commission has put in place a "robust mechanism" to receive and collate results from the regional coalition centers.
Jean mensa explained the detailed process, which involves results being transmitted from polling stations to constituency coalition centers, then to the regional level, and finally to the National Coalition Center. At each stage, the representative emphasized, political party agents and observers are present to review and endorse the results.
"The whole idea is to ensure that what comes up at the end of the day has been as involved. It's a boat craft approach that has involved all the agents at all levels, and at the end of the day, what comes up is acceptable by all the candidates and their supporters and the citizens as well," the commission representative stated.
While noting some delays due to supporters of political parties besieging coalition centers, the commission said it has engaged with party leadership to recall their supporters and ensure unhindered access for its staff. The commission assured that it remains committed to upholding the will of the Ghanaian people as expressed at the polls.
She expressed confidence that the final presidential election results will be declared within the 72-hour timeline, citing the commission's previous record of declaring results in just 48 hours in the 2020 elections.
"The transparent manner in which we have conducted ourselves has ensured that this election has been peaceful, it has been credible, it has been fair, and it has been acceptable by all stakeholders," the commission representative concluded.
