Controversy Erupts Over Alleged Incident at Ghana Armed Forces Ammunition Depot

Story by, Nsor Paul Mensah

A controversy has erupted over an alleged incident that occurred two days ago at the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN) Ammunition Depot of the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF). The Anchoring Democracy Advocacy Movement Ghana (ADAM-GH) has accused the GAF of misleading the public in their official statement about the incident.

In a press release, ADAM-GH stated that the GAF's response, which claimed a vehicle entered the magazine premises to deliver newly acquired live cows for quarantine, is nothing but "deception fabricated aiming to cheat the intelligence of Ghanaians." The group asserted that the pickup vehicle actually entered the magazine with an empty bucket and no cow, and the bucket was covered when the vehicle was leaving.

ADAM-GH raised several questions challenging the GAF's account, including:

- When did the GAF start using their Ammunition Depot as a quarantine facility for cows?

- Where was the Provost Officer in charge of animals, as it was the Operations Warrant Officer and Commanding Officer who were present?

- How can quarantining a cow require the Commanding Officer and high-ranking Warrant Officer to be involved?

- Can the GAF provide evidence such as access permits, sentry records, and vehicle details to substantiate their claims?

The group is calling on the GAF leadership to thoroughly investigate the incident and hold the Commanding Officer, Lt. Col. Owusu Afriyie, and Operations Warrant Officer Owusu Twum accountable if necessary. ADAM-GH stressed that protecting the integrity and respect of the Ghana Armed Forces is a collective responsibility.

The GAF is yet to respond directly to the questions and allegations raised by ADAM-GH. The public awaits further clarification and transparency from the military institution on this matter.
