Accra, Ghana - In a meeting of key stakeholders concerning 2024 election, the General Secretary of Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP), Justice Frimpong-Kodua, has called for unity and respect for the rule of law in the upcoming national elections.
Addressing representatives from various security agencies, political parties, and the media, Frimpong-Kodua emphasized the importance of ensuring that "the winner will be Ghana and not a single political party" after the elections on December 7th.
The NPP, he stated, is committed to following due process and respecting the democratic order that Ghana has enjoyed over the years. However, Frimpong-Kodua expressed concerns over incidents of violence and chaos that occurred during a recent by-election in Sene, where there were reports of shootings in some NPP strongholds.
"Going to this elections, this is something that we don't want to see on December 7," he said. "People going to express which political party they want to govern. It should not be violent."
The NPP General Secretary also raised concerns about intelligence reports of potential plans to cause disruptions on election day. He called on the security agencies to ensure that no one is "above the law" and that violence does not play any role in the elections.
Addressing the use of motorbikes on election day, which have been linked to past incidents of chaos, Frimpong-Kodua sought clarity on the regulations governing their use during the upcoming polls.
He also urged the media to provide accurate information, cautioning against the spread of misinformation that could potentially trigger unrest.
The meeting, convened by the Ghana Police Service, provided a platform for open dialogue and a collective commitment to ensuring peaceful, free, and fair elections in Ghana.
