MoGCSP HOST CAPACITY-BUILDING PROGRAM FOR STAKEHOLDERS ON DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AND CASE MANAGEMENT

The Domestic Violence Secretariat (DVS) of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection organized a three-day training workshop for stakeholders and selected staff on domestic violence and case management in Accra.

The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity and understanding of domestic, sexual, and gender-based violence, as well as the case management skills of stakeholders.

Speaking at the workshop on behalf of the Chief Director of the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Dr. Afisah Zakariah, the Head of the Domestic Violence Secretariat, Madam Melonin Asibi, stated that domestic violence is a human rights violation that cuts across the world, hence the need for concerted efforts to tackle it.

She emphasized that the Domestic Violence Secretariat (DVS) and the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) are two separate organizations, but they work together to achieve a common purpose.

"DOVVSU is a very strong collaborator that DVS cannot do without," she added.

Madam Melonin Asibi urged the participants to be active, share knowledge and experiences, and contribute inputs to achieve a common goal.

In her remarks, the Representative from UNFPA, Madam Adwoa Yenyi, commended the Government, the Ministry, and the DVS for taking the necessary steps to support the vulnerable, especially women and children, from domestic violence issues in the country.

She appealed to development partners to come on board, help advocate, and mobilize resources to support the victims of domestic violence.

Presentations were made on the National and International Framework on Gender and SGBV (Sexual and Gender-Based Violence). This was to ensure that the relevant stakeholders possess the necessary knowledge, skills, and resources to address domestic violence effectively.

The training started on Wednesday, 7th August, and ended on Friday, 9th August 2024.
