The Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Assembly has disbursed a portion of the District Assembly Common Fund (DACF) for persons with disabilities (PWDs) in the district to alleviate their burdens and help them engage in income-generating activities.

During a ceremony on Monday, August 19, 2024, the District Chief Executive (DCE), District Coordinating Director (DCD), department heads, executives of the Disability Fund Management Committee (DFMC), and members of disability groups participated in this significant event, which took place in Ajumako.

The government, through the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District Chief Executive, provided the PWDs with business startups by distributing items such as pepper grinding machines, fufu pounding machines, deep freezers, sewing machines, gari frying pot, hair dressing dryers, palm kennel machines, and bags of charcoal.

Speaking at the ceremony, DCE Rev. Ransford Kwesi Nyarkoh stated that the government has a genuine concern for PWDs and vulnerable individuals in society. He emphasized the continuous support and interventions aimed at empowering these individuals and reducing family and societal burdens.

"The Government of Ghana always prioritizes persons with disabilities and, barring any hiccups, will ensure their share of the DACF is released timely. The government of H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Dr. Bawumia will always support you, and you can be assured that greater things will happen for PWDs and the vulnerable in society at large," he said.

Rev. Nyarkoh added that the government has implemented measures to provide meaningful employment for PWDs, including the reintroduction of toll booths on roads, as mentioned in the last budget reading.

He advised beneficiaries to make good use of the support provided by the government and encouraged them to use the items received for their intended purposes rather than returning to begging on the streets.

The head of the Social Welfare Department at the District Assembly, Mr. Anis Mogtari, reiterated that a monitoring team has been established to visit beneficiaries and ensure the proper use of the items. He urged beneficiaries to resist the temptation to use the items for purposes other than their intended use.

The President of the Ghana Federation of Persons with Disabilities in the District, Ishak Adam, expressed his gratitude to the government and the District Chief Executive (DCE) for their proactiveness on issues concerning the vulnerable. He said these items will positively impact the lives of the recipients.

He called on the beneficiaries to adhere to the advice given by the DCE. He added that he will join the monitoring team in their inspections and will not hesitate to deal with anyone who misuses any of the items.
