Ashtoken, a platform for funding sustainable business initiatives, has donated an undisclosed amount to support the celebration of this year's Abangye Festival in Ajumako-Bisease, Central Region.
The festival, which literally translates as 'fencing', is celebrated to count surviving warriors who fought for the victory of the comm. It is also the opportunity to seek the blessings of the gods for the community in the years ahead.
In a brief ceremony at Kumannsa Fie, Mr. Enoch Kankam, the Central Regional Manager of Ashtoken, presented the donation to the traditional authority to kickstart the preparation for the celebration.
Mr. Kankam stated that the company made this move as part of its commitment to the culture and traditions of the people, and the uniqueness of the Abangye Festival motivated them to support the event.
In his acceptance speech, the Chief of Ajumako-Bisease, Osabarima Damfo Baah VII, said the community is grateful to Ashtoken for the immense support towards the festival celebration in the last two years.
He added that the contribution will help the community to realize some aspects of the vision for celebrating the festival, which is hinged on maintaining peace and unity for development.
Osabarima called on other corporate entities to follow the examples of Ashtoken. He stated that this will help in preserving the culture and traditions of the people.
The vice chairman for the Abangye Planning Committee, Kofi Seedof, pledged to support Ashtoken to thrive in Ajumako-Bisease and its environs. He encouraged the company to take advantage of the huge patronage of the festival to propagate the business ideas to people.
The Abangye Festival, celebrated by the people of Ajumako-Bisease, is considered one of the biggest in the Central Region and attracts tens of thousands of people to the community within the period.
This year's edition, which commenced on July 3 with a football gala, is expected to reach its peak on August 2 and 3 with cultural rites and a fundraising Durbar, respectively. The theme for the celebration is "Maintaining Peace and Unity for Development in this Election Year".
