The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) has initiated a project to build a globe statue in a basic school in Ghana.
The project, titled "The Globe of Tomorrow," will serve as a legacy project to commemorate the FIG Congress 2024 held in Accra. The project will symbolize the interconnectedness of the world, inspire students to learn about geography, culture, and the importance of surveying in understanding and managing the Earth.
The project will also leverage local artistry, sustainable materials, and incorporate educational elements to make it a lasting learning tool.
Delivering the speech at Burma Camp Service School to inaugurate the project, the Co-conference Director for The International Federation of Surveyors (FIG) working week Conference 2024, Surveyor Stephen Djaba, said, "By integrating the globe statue into the school curriculum, we aim to spark curiosity, instill a sense of global awareness, and foster a deeper understanding of the world around us."
Surveyor Djaba encouraged young students to consider the field of surveying as a career path. He explained that there are exciting opportunities for growth, innovation, and meaningful contribution to society for people who pursue a career in surveying.
He charged all and sundry to support and empower the youth towards their journey of discovery and learning.
The 2024 FIG Congress took place at the La Palm Royal Beach Resort in Accra from May 19th to 23rd, 2024. The next edition is expected to take place in Australia in 2025.
