The narrative for Technical and Vocational Training is changing in the country, according to the ministry of education, in the 2023/2024 academic calendar alone, a total of 60,481 new students have enrolled in various Government TVET institutions which provide free TVET compared to the less 20,000 students who enrolled annually prior to 2017.
Prof. Mark Adom Asamoah, Stem Policy Adviser at the ministry of education explained that this new enrolment, the total number of enrollments in Government TVET institutions stands at well over 157,681. "Our investment in TVET over the last seven years cannot be over emphasized."
The upgrading and modernization of all the erstwhile 34 National Vocational and Technical Institutes (NVTI's), Head Office together with 10 Regional Offices, 5 apprenticeship offices across the country, and the Opportunity Industrialization Center in Accra comprising of the Construction, Rehabilitation and Equipping of Laboratories, Workshops.
additional Classrooms, Hostels, Administrative Offices supported with some 123 million euros is set to be completed in July 2022. Also, two (2) New Foundries and machining centers, one in CSIR (Accra) and the other at KNUST, Kumasi will be completed this year.
Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, the Director General of Commission of Technical and Vocational Education Training said government has invested huge sums of money into TVET.
Speaking at TVET Symposium with a them "Enhancing TVET and Skills Development Towards Sustainable and Decent Job Creation", Dr. Kyei Asamoah said government will continue to support technical and Vocational Education Training in other to get more job for the youth.
