In a celebration of Ghana's storied heritage, Ghana Post unveiled plans for a commemorative stamp honoring the esteemed Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the 16th Asantehene. The unveiling was announced during a press briefing on Friday, April 26th, at the Ministry of Communications' conference room in Accra.
The Commemorative stamps are a means of Immortalizing historical figures and events, ensuring that their legacies endure for generations. In light of this, Ghana Post is embarking on a noble project to honour the legacy and invaluable contributions of His Majesty Otumfuo Osei Tutu II with the production of a commemorative stamp.
The stamp will serve as a symbol of his legacy for generations to come as well as memorialise the remarkable contributions of Otumfuo to the Asante Kingdom and Ghana as a whole.
Managing director of Ghana Post, Mr. Bice Osei Kuffour at the press launch said the commemorative stamps go beyond their functional role as postage stamps, as they stand as symbols of the deep respect and admiration that Ghana holds for Asante Kingdom and its esteemed leader.
He said the stamps which will be officially unveiled on 4 May 2024 at the Manhyia Palace in Ashanti Region will not only be a collector’s item but also an educational tool that offer insights into Ghana’s history, culture, and traditions.
“Let this stamp stand as a testament to the indomitable spirit of Ghanaians, a symbol of resilience to resist the oppressor’s rule and a reminder that our roots are the foundation upon which our future is built,” he said.
The chief director of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation, Alexander Yaw Arphul who represented the sector minister, lauded Ghana Post for the initiative and emphasised that the introduction of the commemorative stamps is a reflection of Ghana’s National pride and identity.
He said, it will serve as a reminder of the inseparable link between Ghana’s traditional values and the modern aspirations.
He also appreciated the Asantehene for how impactful he has been to the country and Asanteman.
“This masterpiece is more than just a postage instrument. It is a tangible representation of the indelible mark Otumfuo has left for the of Ghana.”

The official launch of the Asantehene Commemorative Stamp will take place on the 4th of May. 2024, in the magnificent Manhyia Palace.
