Pre- Tertiary teacher Unions in Ghana have declared an action to register their displeasure against the government.
Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT), National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) and Coalition of Concerned Teachers Association of Ghana (CCT-GH) in a joint press conference on Wednesday, 20th March 2024 said the action takes immediate effect.
The President of GNAT, Rev Isaac Owusu, speaking on behalf of the unions highlighted reasons for the impasse.
He cited delays with negotiation of the collective agreement, lack of functional scheme of service and neglect of some pertinent issues in the education fraternity as deterministic in taking this decision.
The continued that the inability of the government to complete the distribution of laptops to teachers, rampant changes in the educational calendar are other reasons for the action.
According to him, the stroke that broke the camel's back is the blockage of some teachers' salary by the Special Prosecutor without any tangible reason demanded this call
"In the light of the above circumstances and given the delays, unfulfilled promises on the part of the Employer and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission. (FWSC) and also threats from the rank and file of our members, we the Pre-tertiary Teacher Unions do stand with our members and hereby declare a nationwide industrial action (strike) effective today, Wednesday, 20th March, 2024, to press home our demands," he declared
