The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Ajumako Enyan Essiam District, Hon Rev Ransford Emmanuel Kwesi Nyarkoh, has recounted how Ghana's democracy has helped in improving development in the District.
The DCE made this known in his address on Wednesday, March 6, during the Independence Day Anniversary Celebration parade held at the University of Education Winneba- Ajumako Campus Football field at Ajumako in the Central Region.
The celebration, held on the theme 'Our Democracy, Our Pride' saw many people across the social stratum gracing the ocassion. Traditional rulers from the five paramount within the district, heads of government institutions and agencies, members of the assembly, teachers and students joined the general public to observe the special day, which also seek to remember the sacrifices made by the forefathers to rescue power from our colonial imperialists.
Referencing the theme, Hon Kwesi Nyarkoh illuminated that the District has fully participated in the country's democratic journey. He called on all to be proud of what each has done to uphold our democracy to this far.
According to him, the District is made of people with diverse cultural heritage, yet democracy has made it easy to develop a common mentality for the growth of the district.
He added that the system of governance has empowered them to make significant strides which has resulted in some developmental projects in educational, health, agriculture, water and sanitation sectors.
"Our democracy has empowered us to make great strides in providing education facilities such a science laboratory,a girls dormitory, classroom blocks, over one thousand mono desks for students at Bisease Secondary School. In Mando Secondary School, we have provided dormitories, an Assembly hall, classroom,etc. We have also connected water, provided desks, beds and other infrastructure for the Enyan Denkyira Secondary School. Over twenty (20) new classroom blocks have been built over the period across the district", he added.
He pledged to deepen democratic governance in the district by continuously engaging the people through the community fura, youth empowerment programs, and participatory decision-making process.
The Paramount Chief of the Ajumako Traditional Area, Okukudurfo Ogyeabo Kwamina Hammah Ababio II, in his address, reiterated that the development of the country should be paramount to everyone living in Ghana. He said, this was the foundation for the struggle by the forefathers to wrestle power from our colonial masters, and that upholding the developmental agenda of the nation will mean living the dream of the patriarchs of this country.
