The medical superintendent for Bisease Polyclinic in the Ajumako Enyan Essiam District of the Central region, Dr Justice Holison, has called on stakeholders to support the expansion of the health facility to meet the growing demand for healthcare delivering in the area.
According to Dr Holison on the strategic plan of the health facility at a stakeholders meeting held in Ajumako-Bisease today 27th February 2024, that the Polyclinic serve a projected population of 24,024 comprising Bisease (17,073), Anyinasu (3200), Obrawogum (1172) and Kokoben (2578). According to him, the facility is highly accessed by people within and outside their catchment area due to the professionalism of the staff and management.
The stakeholders meeting, which was the first of it's kind to be organised by the facility, brought together traditional rulers, health workers, educational workers, security personnel, media and the general public to deliberate on how to improve healthcare delivery in the town and it's environs. It also provided for the management of the facility to present the achievements and the challenges to the people and to seek assistance where necessary.
The Odzikro of Ajumako-Bisease, Osabirima Damfo Baah VII, the District Director of Health, Mr Stephen Tietor and the District Police Commander, ASP Seth Osei were among the dignitaries who graced the occasion.
He added that the polyclinic is revered among the peers due to the achievements chalked in the 5 years of it's existence, one of which is the successful operations and correction of hernia, which is the highest in the region in recent times.
Notwithstanding the achievements, Dr Holison narrated that the polyclinic is faced with myriad of problems. He said the staff strength, staff accommodation, healthcare facilities are inadequate. This, he said, is hindering the smooth operations. He said the doctor to patients ratio which should be at 1:7500 is 1:24024, and the average bed usage of 75 is 96 instead.
In line with the management's vision to transform the polyclinic into the preferred referral hospital in Central Region, Dr Holison said the Polyclinic has earmarked some projects to be carried out within the year. He said there are many opportunities available for the expansion to meet the growing demand of the people seeking healthcare.
He admonished the stakeholders to champion this agenda and contribute the little they can.
On his part, the Odzikro of Ajumako-Bisease, Osabirima Damfo Baah VII, in his remarks as the chairman of the occasion, urged his subjects to avoid delay in seeking healthcare when they notice any ill heath.
He congratulated the management of the polyclinic for the successful organisation of the stakeholders engagement. He also tasked them to intensify the health campaigns in the communities. He said, this will help to prevent many diseases that are easy preventable.
Osabirima Damfo Baah VII, pledged that he will do everything within his capacity to help in the expansion project.
The district health director for Ajumako Enyan Essiam District, Mr Stephen Tietor added that the health of the people is determined by the lifestyle and what goes on in homes and not the health facilities.
He advised that people should desist from attitudes that is inimical to their health care
