Vivo Energy launches ‘Fit2Drive Wellness’ campaign

Vivo Energy Ghana, A Shell licencee, in partnership with the National Road Safety Authority and Health Nexus Network has launched a new driver wellness program called Fit2Drive, aimed at improving road safety through enhanced driver health.

 The event held at Neoplan Station in Accra on Thursday, November 2rd 2023 brought together stakeholders like the MTTD, Road Safety Authority, health experts and drivers unions.

The Fit2Drive Wellness Programme aims to promote and enhance the physical and mental well-being of commercial drivers, ensuring they maintain optimal health and safety standards while on the road.

“Following the successful launch and roll-out of our STOP, THINK & DRIVE road safety campaign, we are excited to refocus on the health of our commercial drivers.  We believe that investing in the wellness of our drivers is essential for fostering a safer and more efficient transportation system,” says Kader Maiga, Managing Director-Vivo Energy Ghana.

“As a major player in the downstream petroleum sector, championing and setting standards for safety, innovation and quality, we remain resolute in our commitment to make positive impact in communities where we operate by implementing long-term sustainable development initiatives with a focus on the health of our people.”

Dr. Ofori Boadu, (Director - ICD Ghana health service stated that, the health risk factors associated with driving include long hours in a single body posture; and exposure to vibration, vehicle exhaust, noise, fatigue and self-medication among others. Divers who participate in the programme will go through a free occupational health assessment funded by Vivo Energy Ghana.

He emphasize that, This programme is designed specifically for commercial drivers to ensure optimum health wellness on the road."

He outlined that the initiative provides "health screening, educational seminars and fitness exercises" to reduce driver fatigue, stress and associated risks.

The Motor Transport and Traffic Directorate (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service Superintendent Joseph Appiah, commended Vivo Energy's focus on driver health.
