NIXIN PAPER MILL GHANA LIMITED HAS A VALID ENVIRONMENTAL PERMIT-- EPA

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stated in categorically that Nixin Paper Mill Ghana Limited, manufactures of Paper Card has been permitted by the agency to operate in Ghana.

Addressing some accusations leveled against the company about waste water being channel into the sea, the executive director of EPA, Dr. Henry Kwabena Kokofu, explained that the company was given permit to operate in the year 2019 , which is due to expire on the 14th of November, 2024

According to him the were some challenges during the test run of the company at the initial stage such as power failure which lead to a spillage of waste water into the sea which has an impact on the Pratu river and the Pomadze lagoon.

He opined that, the factory was on the process of constructing wastewater treatment facilities at the premises but the pace of the construction was affected by covid 19 pandemic due to flight of equipment from China.

At a press conference today , Dr. Kwabena Kokofu made known to the the general public that it has investigated a recurring complaint on alleged discharge of untreated wastewater directly into the sea near Winneba in the Central Region by Nixin Paper Mill Ghana Limited manufacturers of Paper Card also known as cardboard. 

The company is situated near Winneba on a land take of about fifty-six acres (56 acres) with a production capacity of 40,000 tons per annum. It is registered under the 1 District 1 factory initiative and commenced business November 2019.

"The pace of construction of the wastewater treatment facilities were hampered by the Covid 19 pandemic restrictions affecting the freight of equipment from China into the country. Nixin Paper Mill Ghana Limited, constructed a pipe from their factory into the sea", he explained.
