The International Kickboxing Federation (IKF) and PKB Ghana held a press conference on Friday, 14th April, 2023. The purpose for the conference is to bring the attention of the people to kickboxing as a sport in Ghana, which can also help the youth to achieve greatness.
Addressing the media, the president of the IKF/PKB Ghana, Mr Ahmed Ibrahim said the Federation is committed to giving the boxers in Ghana international exposure so that they can take part in international competitions. He added that he desires to get more Ghanaians trained in the United States of America (USA) as referees so that the country will also have referees of international standard.
Mr Ibrahim Sannie, the Patron and Sponsor of IKF/PKB Ghana in his address said he has identified the challenges faced by these boxers and is committed to solve them so that the boxers can achieve what they want. He opined that kickboxing as a sports can be used to eradicate social vices in some parts of the country. He explained that people indulge in these acts due to poverty and the sports has the propensity to its eradication. He also expressed strong belief that the sports can help instill discipline in the youths. He reiterated his readiness to provide financial support to the team for their travels and other expenses.
The coach of the team expressed his confidence. He said the team can achieve a lot if they receive the necessary supports.
Some of the fighters who spoke to the media said they are ready to fight for the flag of Ghana. Some said they want to make names for themselves as other people have done in other sports, especially boxing.
