Plan for childbirth - Dr Leticia Appiah Advises.

The Executive Director of the National Population Council (NPC), Dr. Leticia Adelaide Appiah has advised the youth to plan for their children before giving birth.

According to her, unplanned childbirth could result in problems including crimes and poverty in the country.

In an interview with Nyansa Kyeame Yaw Boadi on Accra based Hot 93.9fm, she mentioned that “unplanned childbirth leads to irresponsibility on the part of parents, and as such, these children become inconveniences in their families, communities, and the country at large.”

She stressed that the failure of the youth to plan before childbirth has resulted in lots of teenage pregnancies as teenage mothers are failing to train their wards properly hence there is a repetition of their mistakes.

Dr. Leticia added that teenage girls especially those under the age of 18 are prone to having health implications if they over-birth since they do not have a strong body system to carry babies.

She, therefore advises the youth to adopt the birth control method, which is Family Planning if they know they are incapable of caring for their wards.
