EA Fistula Care Ghana Launch To Improve Women's Health in Ghana

EA Fistula Care Ghana a non governmental organization has been launched with the vision to demystify and de stigmatized obstetric fistula through awareness creation to prevent delay  in health seeking. This event took place in Accra on the Thursday October 27th 2022.


The organization seeks to relieve young and adults females of medical conditions commonly referred to as Obstetric fistula by using a advocacy as a tool to reduce the incidence of obstetric fistula in the country and to assemble and deploy the services of health,social experts to break the cycle of obstetric fistula.

According to the C.E.O of fistula care Ghana Dr Ernestina Asiedu , the organization want to play advocacy role in development of policies to help others and draw attention to attract fistula women and bring them on board to be supported. “ we want to tell the world fistula is not a spiritual disease but a medical condition that could only be treated with surgeon “ Also there is more need to carry research and dissemination so that people will understand that fistula and also be interested in carrying researches in fistula.

Dr. Asiedu Emphasized that, obstetric fistula is directly linked to one of the leading causes of maternal mortality: difficult labor during delivery or a lack of sufficient obstetric care, 

 obstetric fistula is a painful consequence of protracted, obstructed labor that causes urine, faeces, or both to flow from the vaginal opening.

 The persistent and embarrassing odor of leaked urine, faeces, or both causes health and psychological problems, as well as social isolation. This can lead to financial difficulty, community stigmatization, and a lower overall quality of life.

She therefore advised men to assist their partners when found this disease because women who suffer from fistula experience constant embarrassment, and social discrimination. 

Hon. Yaw Berimah former MP for koforidua New Juaben south also noted that we have come to understand that there is a scientific basis for fistula and it is treatable there’d it is possible to give people hope and that is what Fistula Care Ghana is providing. “I congratulate Dr Ernestina Aseidu for this initiative to give hope for redemption “

In addition due to testimonies of recovered patients we need to give proper attention , assistant motivation and support.



Dr. Kwame Anim Boamah a Doctor at University of Ghana medical care center also added that Dr. Ernestina has provided a concrete data and the good thing is that it explore the socio economic cultural and religious believe of this women and of society that really lead to the condition and even after surgery how this women are integrated into societies to get their lives back.

I am excited what the foundation is doing by creating awareness about the conditions of fistula  for them and offer them what they need. “The NGO is going to also train health workers in general so that will be able to create very nice and good environments within the facilities that would encourage all women to come to the facilities to deliver because we'll find our facilities to be friendly and therefore they will come and deliver and most importantly also, to  provide care for women who have unfortunately suffered the condition Be able to provide fund for their surgeries and support them medically “. 

They shall be given social support after they have had the surgery to be able to reintegrate them back into their home.

“women who have gone under treatment will be given some employable skills so that economically they can you know hold themselves together “ He said .
