Construction and Building Materials Workers Union ( CBMWU) in collaboration with AKO Foundation on Friday October 28, celebrated 2022 International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week on the theme " Say No To Lead Poison."
The event was crowded with some dignitaries like Mr. Lovelace Sarpong, from ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY, Mr. Richard Asamoah-mensah, General Secretary Construction and Building Materials workers Union, under TUC, Brother kwame Ofori, CEO AKO Foundation and others .
Mr Richard Asamoah-mensahSpeaking at the event, Secretary of the construction and building materials workers union Mr. Richard Asamoah-Mensah explained that Ghana’s government has three arms, namely, the Executive, the Legislature and the Judiciary. The Executive proposes Bills, they are discussed and passed and after endorsement, the Judiciary uses it as the Rule of Law.
Through these processes, Ghana has developed so many comprehensive labour laws that are meant to protect every worker. These laws could make the world of work safer, the plants, equipment and systems to pose no danger to any worker and provide risk-free and healthier welfare systems for all. Unfortunately, there is a mismatch between the existing laws and the practices on the ground.
“The current labour laws may need to be looked at as they have to have universal coverage for all forms of work and every type of worker including those in the informal economy and those hired by labour brokers for companies. A review of some of the obsolete laws is called for.

The CEO of AKO Foundation Brother kwame Ofori added that, the young people and every individual must be educated about this lead poison .Also mothers should ensure that their homes are save because children touches paints which they later put their hands in their mouth, This enters into their blood causing problems.
“I’m happy that Ghana Standards Authority is meeting to ban some activities of poison from the society “.
