Reported by, Nsor Paul mensah.

Presbyteries, zone and local congratulations have been encouraged to Venture into food crop cultivation, the Moderator of the Global Evangelical Church (GEC), Right Rev. Prosper Samuel Dzomeku  stated this yesterday 5th August 2022 at the Opening ceremony of the 2022 Mini Synod of the Global Evangelical Church on the theme, 'Be Ye Holy'.

According to the Moderator many countries in the world including Ghana was facing economic crisis resulting in price hikes of food items and there was the need for more people to get involved in crop cultivation.

"With global Evangelical Church communal spirit, we hope that we all would take up cassava, maize, rice, vegetable and also tree crops farming on large scale as these initiatives can support more people and cut down the economic crises after harvesting".

Right Rev. Dzomeku noted that economic mismanagement and profligacy could not be ruled out even though the unprecedented high cost of living experienced in the country was triggered by the Russia-Ukraine War and the COVID-19 pandemic.

"There is no doubt that the twin problem of the times, the outbreak of the COVID-19 and the Russia-Ukraine war were major causes of the general high cost of living, as a mitigating measure, leadership is encouraging its congregations to venture into food crops cultivation", he advised.

He further appealed to the government to do a candid introspection in order to address the situation from the right perspective and bring relief to the people of Ghana.

Touching on the theme, he emphasize that, Christians were called to have a holy  living and to stick and stand out in that regard, distinguishing their lifestyle from that of unbelievers no matter what.

"Christians are constantly facing temptations to live in a manner which is not pleasing to God in this dark world of sin today, ungodly living seems to be encouraged and embraced but Christians are expected to stand on God's Word and be the beacon of hope life, and instructions to those living in darkness,. he said.

Dr Achibald Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, who was a guest of honour, commended the Church for its social programmes and interventions undertaken over the years, including donation to hospitals, physically challenged persons and the establishment of schools.

"I must say that faith-based groups have contributed greatly to the achievements of the nation and while the government appreciates this, we believe there is more room for improvement," he added.

He, however, urged the Church to continue to create awareness on the precautionary measures against COVID-19 and other related diseases since they were on the ascendency.
