Atta Mills Memorial Heritage launches 10yrs anniversary celebration

 The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage has outlined plans to organize a Regional Lecture series in commemoration of the 10th Anniversary of the Death of President John Evans Atta Mills.

This was made known at a press conference organized by the Heritage to announce programme activities for the rest of the year in honour of the late head of state.

The general theme for the Regional Lectures is, “Ten years on: The Man John Evans Atta Mills”, but the Local Organizing Committee for each cluster of regions is free to choose a sub-theme for its lecture which would be in line with the national theme and fall within the broad national framework.

Addressing the press conference, the Board Chairman of John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage, Mr. Alex Segbefia disclosed that, the 16 regions of Ghana have been clustered into five groups.

The five regions in the Northern Ghana he mentioned include; North, Savannah, Upper West, Upper East and North East, to be chaired by Naa Alhassan Andani, former Executive Director of Stanbic Bank and member of the Advisory Council of the Memorial Heritage.

The Central and Western clusters he indicated would be chaired by Nana Brew-Butler, Chairman of the Governing Council of the University of Cape Coast.

The South-East Cluster comprises the Volta and Oti Regions. That of the Middle Belt Cluster is made up of four regions namely Bono, Bono East, Ahafo and Western North Regions and the lecture would be held in November in Sunyani.

Furthermore, the Ashanti and Eastern Cluster comprises Ashanti and Eastern Region and the lecture would be held in Kumasi in December to end the 10th anniversary activities.

Mr. Segbefia, however, entreated all Ghanaians to participate fully in the lectures when it gets to their turn in their clustered regions in memory of a unique, selfless, and distinguished President of Ghana, a man of character who stood tall and brought dignity, inclusiveness and character into Ghanaian politics.

The commemoration of John Evans Atta Mills Heritage is to take place on July 24, 2022 which is the exact day on which President John Evans Atta Mills died, with a memorial service to be held at the Asomdwee Park in Accra.

The highlight of the 10th anniversary commemorative lecture is expected to be delivered in Accra on Tuesday July 26, 2022 at 3p.m., and would double as the Greater Accra Regional Commemorative Lecture.

It was announced that, at the Tamale Lecture, which is the title of the “Proceedings of the Lecture of the John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage” held on 1st February, 2022 which has been published into a book, would be launched and put up for sale to the public.

The Memorial Heritage’s Advisory Council is made up of fifteen personalities and chaired by Togbe Afede XIV, the Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State of the Volta Region.

The John Evans Atta Mills Memorial Heritage was birthed and duly incorporated on October 14, 2021 as a Company Limited by Guarantee. It is a non-for-profit, non-partisan, independent, charitable organization.
