The National Concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association has categorically state that they will resist every attempt by government to relocate Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers to Afienya .
Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday 10 May, 2022, the P R O for the Association, Mr Takyi Addo explained to the media that, the Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, has said the intended relocation of the Spare parts Dealers from Abossey Okai to Afienya is mainly aimed at decongesting the Abossey Okai area in Accra which has become difficult to navigate with a vehicle because of the trading activities on the streets.
For the Association, the Minister is also reported to have said in an interview on Joy FM on 23 April 2022 that he wants to relocate Abossey Okal Spare parts to Afienya, in other to sanitize the city.
According to the Public Relation Officer of the Concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association, the Association is totally against the intended or planned relocation of the Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers to Afienya.
"We would like to state that the National Concerned Spare Parts Dealers Association is vehemently opposed to the supposed relocation of the Abossey Okal Spare Parts Dealers to Afienya. We consider the decision as very unfortunate and unnecessary because it will not help we the spare parts dealers at Abossey Okal as relocating to a different place is not what we need to make our business thrive."
Mr. Takyi Addo's address, hinted that Abossey Okai is the heart of a thriving trading community in Ghana and it contributes massively to the economy of Ghana. "There is the need to improve facilities in the community. The provision of amenities
like adequate parking and waste disposal will go a long way into improving conditions in Abossey Okai."
"We are therefore calling on Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council to reverse the decision within two weeks else we the National Concerned Spare Parts Dealers will embark on a serious demonstration to register our protest against the planned or intended relocation."
He also urged government to come out with policies which will help the spare parts business in the country to thrive instead of planning to relocate Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers to Afienya .
"We consider the intention by government through the Greater Accra Regional Coordinating Council to relocate us (Abossey Okai Spare Parts Dealers) to Aflenya as an affront to our trading activities. This is an
attempt by the so called executives to make the current government unpopular in Abossey Okai as the statements being made by the Minister in consultation with the said executives has affected our businesses drastically," he noted.
